My dad, Alan Charles Parker, was born on 17th August 1907. He fought in World War II, serving in India and Burma. He was taken ill with malaria whilst in Burma: his mother was sent a telegram to inform her that he was on the seriously ill list. Much to her relief, her son did return and later that year, on 31st August 1945, he and Mum were married: they had become engaged by letter during the war.

Dad made a record of his experiences during the war: he called his memoirs 'Life With The Lid Off'. I eventually re-produced it in the form of a book. He says little about his time in Burma, too horrific an experience to dwell upon, but he had made much of his time in India, taking advantage of any 'leave' to travel and see as much of the country as possible.
