Having spent most of my adult life in north-east Scotland and my childhood holidays on the west coast, my first novel, Twenty Years from Home, was inspired by this beautiful country
'For The Right Reasons’ was a charity in Inverness set up to help people who wanted to conquer their drug or alcohol dependency. It aimed to give them unconditional, non-judgemental support and friendship throughout the whole process, from the time they made the personal commitment to get clean or dry, to the day they could re-integrate with society.
In order to help achieve their goal the charity provided purposeful employment in running a charity shop, a publishing and printing enterprise and, during the lockdown, delivery of food parcels.
Rev. Richard Burkitt, founder member and director of the charity which started in 2007, worked relentlessly over the years to support those in need. With the number of those actively involved dwindling and the retirement of 'The Rev' in September 2021 the charity has, sadly, closed its doors.
After meeting Richard, an old friend from university/college days in Leeds, I became involved in proof-reading and attending book launches, thus meeting up with some of the authors. Eventually, with Richard’s encouragement, I began to write my own book: memoirs of my teaching experience.

In 2016 I moved to Cottingham near Kingston Upon Hull, the city of my birth. Later that year I joined a writing group, Writer's@... (Writer's at dot, dot, dot). Inspired by the group, I completed the memoirs of my teaching career, which was subsequently published in 2017 by 'For The Right Reasons' in Inverness.
The founder of the group, Lynne Emmerson, also published her first book in 2017. A Patchwork of Angels can be bought directly by e-mailing Lynne at 3lv3n5tardanc3r@gmail.com.
